Hi everyone,
I am thrilled to be writing from the 2007 YearlyKos convention in the great city of Chicago. Thanks to Markos for his postings (here, here, and here) and his support to stop the Bush administrations rubberstamp, John Cornyn.
Just a few weeks ago at the State Capitol in Austin, where I have been honored to serve the people of Texas in the House of Representatives since 1998, I announced my exploratory committee to run for the United States Senate. Texas bloggers encouraged me to run by starting a Draft Rick movement back in the spring and I've received strong support from 48 of my Democratic colleagues in the Texas Legislature.
I have been truly gratified and humbled by the response I’ve received, from all across Texas and this great country.
(continued below the fold)
YearlyKos and the progressive blogosphere represent what’s right in our democracy: the ability for citizens across the country to join together and fight for a better America, even in the toughest of fights. How many people could have predicted the amazing victories of Jim Webb and Jon Tester? Well, the progressive netroots did.
Why Texas? Texas offers a real opportunity to shock the political world in 2008. Junior Senator John Cornyn is the least popular Senator in the entire country, and Texans are hungry for change. Together, we can defeat John Cornyn and elect a new, Democratic United States Senator.
Texans recognize that the politics of the status quo simply isn’t working. They know we need new leadership in the Senate, and people from all over are answering the call to service at my campaign web site – I invite you to join us.
I am excited about continuing the dialogue with the netroots community. I’m looking forward to meeting all the bloggers who have made it to Chicago, but I want to also meet those who aren’t able to get to Chicago this weekend. I hope you’ll join me in the comments.
